Note: Listed here are brief blurbs about the major writing projects meant to provide an overview. For a full list of the graded components of this course see the syllabus, and please read the linked project guidelines documents for more specific and complete information about each project.
Responses/Comments
Throughout the semester, you will write informal responses to readings and topics you encounter in this course and interact with your classmate's responses as well. Responses will be posted collectively in a shared GoogleDoc [accessible in our course GoogleDrive] so that we can read and comment on each other's ideas in one place, creating an archived, on-going dialogue throughout the semester.
Focal Topic Proposal
Each project for the course will be completed through the lens of a focal topic: a broad point of inquiry you hope to explore more in-depth in projects 1-3. The proposal will briefly outline your current knowledge about this topic, what else you want to learn about it, and why it's of interest to you personally, professionally, or both.
Project 1: Visual Design Portfolio
An exploration of visual modes using static images, typography, color, and principles of design to craft a rhetorical argument about the author's focal topic. This project also includes an accompanying craft statement in which the author uses terminology from the course to discuss their rhetorical choices.
Project 2: Audio Design Portfolio
An exploration of aural modes using narration, music, sound effects, and audio-storytelling methods to craft a podcast about the author's focal topic. This project also includes an accompanying craft statement in which the author uses terminology from the course to discuss their rhetorical choices.
Project 3: Video Design Portfolio
An exploration of visual and aural modes using a combination of moving images, static images, text, and sound to create a video about the author's focal topic. This project also includes an informal presentation of the video and an accompanying craft statement in which the author uses terminology from the course to discuss their rhetorical choices.
